Sac City’s Museum, Historic Village, and Depot offers a glimpse into days gone by. The main museum building was built by the Wayt Monument Company as a show room for cemetery monuments and also as a facility to engrave the stones. The village is home to a second generation country school where visitors can travel back to a time when eight grades learned together in one room. The 1916 Chicago & Northwestern Depot is a combination passenger and freight depot that utilized C&NW standard plan one. The depot is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Sac City Museum is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons between Memorial Day and Labor Day. To volunteer, schedule an appointment at other times, or for other questions, call Lance Wilhelm at 515-520-0257.
